The Primary School library building is finished! But empty… To finish the project we require book shelves and books.
The Keta District Assembly (for the local district which includes Abor) has agreed to donate the wood and carpentry work for shelves and tables. We have also been given an offer by the US Navy and US Coast Guard for free shipping to Tema Port, Ghana, if we can have library books ready by 7 May, 2008.
We are therefore soliciting book donations: elementary school level children’s books (preschool to grade six) for all topics. The books don’t have to be new; we are in search of a diversity of themes to maximize the utility of the library. So books your children have grown out of, excess inventory from local libraries, things you find at the bookstore. We have also created a wish list at Amazon which is reflected in the lists (Babies and Preschoolers; Early Readers; Middle Readers) below. The lists in large part have been created from the “Black Books Galore!” series (Donna Rand and Toni Trent Parker) and represents Atidekate’s interest in having a solid cadre of books in the Abor library with black characters and images.
Please send all books by May 7th to:
